A new study released by senior care website Caring.com showed the state of Arkansas is the 12th safest state for elderly drivers.
According to the report, 17% of individuals who lose their lives in Arkansas vehicle accidents are 65 or older. That age group comprises only 16% of the total population in the state. Arkansas, incidentally, is among the 19 states that do not have stricter laws in place for older drivers. The most dangerous state for older drivers is Rhode Island. Senior citizens made up 35% of vehicular accident fatalities in 2014. However, the age group only accounts for 16% of Rhode Island’s entire population.
The number one spot for the safest state for senior drivers goes to New Mexico, followed by North Dakota, Louisiana, Alaska, Montana, Mississippi, and South Carolina.
