The United States Food and Drug Administration brushed up final modifications to two new rules on Thursday, September 10 regarding mandating human and animal food companies to determine possible safety food hazards. The FDA also drew out methods to prevent or minimize the production of harmful foods.

These new guidelines are the first of seven proposals in connection with the passage of the Food Safety Modernization Act, which was signed into law in January 2011 and can be counted on as one of the most revitalized and streamlined reforms of food safety laws enacted in the last 70 years.

The new rules are designed in such a way that the USFDA can now be given proactive powers instead of only being able to prosecute food facilities and farms after the fact of the food contamination has spread.
