A collision between a semi-truck and a tour bus from USA Holiday that occurred along Interstate 10, located west of the Indian Canyon Drive off-ramp in Desert Hot Springs near Palm Springs, California last Sunday, October 23 resulted in the death of 13 individuals and the injuring of 31 other people.

According to preliminary investigations, the tour bus that was driven by Teodulo Elias Vides, crashed into the back of the semi-truck. There had been previous cases of negligence exhibited by Vides as he had caused a couple other accidents, one of which resulted in the death of three people.

California Highway Patrol border division chief Jim Abele said the impact between the semi-truck and the bus was significant, noting, “There was no indication whatsoever that the driver applied the brakes.”

The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of 12 of the 13 people who were killed in the crash, who include 10 women between the ages of 52 and 72, plus the driver, and a 62-year-old man. One man is still unidentified.
