At least half the family members of patrons killed in the Pulse nightclub in Orlando are fighting over claims from the OneOrlando Fund. The monetary settlements are being distributed during the last week of September for victims of the worst mass shooting in the country’s recent history: the nightclub massacre in Orlando, Florida on June 12, 2016.
37 patrons who were hospitalized because of the shooting will receive between $65,000 to $300,000 depending on the extent of their wounds and how long they stayed in the hospital. Of these patrons, eight stayed in the hospital for more than 24 days and will receive $300,000 each. 31 patrons required outpatient treatment: each will receive $35,000. 182 patrons who were at the club when the shooting happened but did not sustain any injuries will receive $25,000 each.
One patron who survived the murders, Jillian Amador, asked a judge last Tuesday, September 27 to temporarily halt the distribution of the money until the court conducts an audit of the OneOrlando Fund. The fund was a venture of the gay rights group Equality Florida, the LGBT Community Center of Central Florida, the City of Orlando, and the National Center for Victims of Crime.
