A Sequoyah County head-on collision that occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 24, resulted in one individual being taken to the hospital where she remains in guarded condition. According to members of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 67-year-old Leona Johnson was driving on Wildhorse Mountain Road when she crossed the center line of the roadway, causing a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle.
Johnson was trapped in her vehicle for 45 minutes while emergency responders worked to free her. Once released from her vehicle, she was flown to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith in order to receive treatment for her injuries. The driver of the other vehicle did not suffer any injuries in the crash. At this time, officials report that they are unsure of what caused Johnson to leave her lane and cross the center line.
