Nine people were injured in an accident on I-49 Northbound on Nov. 28. The accident occurred around 2:40 p.m. during heavy rain. The victims of the accident were all taken to Washington Regional in Fayetteville and other hospitals around the area with injuries that were reported to be non life-threatening.

The police that first responded to the accident were both Troop H and Troop L officers. The crash, involving at least four cars, blocked one lane of the interstate around mile marker 39 for a few hours. The police agree that the accident was most likely weather-related due to the rain at the time of the incident.

The Federal Highway Administration reports that out of the nearly 6 million auto accidents that happen each year, 23 percent of these are weather-related. The majority of weather-related crashes are due to wet pavement, caused by rain, snow, and ice. Rainfall alone can account for nearly half of all accidents caused by weather.

The holiday season is plagued by poor road conditions from bad weather and heavy traffic.
